Abstract

Exile was a kind of punishment in the Qin Dynasty,where the criminals were exiled to designated remote and desolate areas.Exile was applicable to both ordinary people and government officials as long as they had committed crimes.Therefore,exile was a very common punishment applicable to both citizens and officials.The punishment of exile in Qin Dynasty was inflicted on people who committed crimes in accordance with the laws,those who were related to criminals,and those who were absolved from graver penalties.Exile was executed by the judiciary department at any given time.There were very rigorous legal procedure in executing exiles.For some specific criminal offences,Exile can be supplemented by other punishments.The exile punishment of the Qin dynasty had a significant influence on the politics,economy and culture of the day,as well as the completion of legal punishment systems in the later dynasties.
