Abstract

Objective To study the clinical features of elderly type 2diabetic patients with ischemic cerebrovascular disease(ICVD).Methods Four hundred elderly ischemic stroke patients were divided into ischemic stroke group(n=144),diabetes plus acute ischemic stroke group(n=256),and 102subjects undergoing physical examination served as a control group.Their serum HbA1c and hs-CRP level and carotid IMT were measured. Results The serum HbA1cand hs-CRP levels were significantly different in diabetes plus acute ischemic strore group, ischemic stroke group and control group[(8.16±2.47)%and(5.01±1.76)%vs(5.10±1.08)%,(4.23±2.76)ng/L and(3.42±2.02)ng/L vs(1.50±1.54)ng/L,P0.05].Age,hypertension,serum HbA1cand hs-CRP level were the independent risk factors for carotid atherosclerosis. The carotid atherosclerosis was severer in diabetes plus acute ischemic stroke group than in ischemic stroke group and control group(70.3%vs 46.5% and 8.8%,P0.05).The carotid IMT was positively related with the serum HbA1cand hs-CRP level(r=0.317,r=0.208,P0.05).Conclusion Carotid atherosclerotic plaques are closely related with serum HbA1cand hs-CRP level in elderly type 2 diabetic patients with ICVD.
