Clinical Observation of α-lipoic Acid Combined with Mecobalamin in the Treatment of Type 2 Diabetic Peripheral Neuropathy

Abstract

OBJECTIVE:To observe the clinical efficacy of α-lipoic acid combined with mecobalamin in the treatment of type 2 diabetic peripheral neuropathy(DPN).METHODS:60 DPN patients in our hospital from Feb.2008 to Nov.2009 were randomly divided into experimental group and control group with each group of 30 cases.Both groups were given mecobalamin,and experimental group was additionally given α-lipoic acid.One treatment course lasted for 4 weeks.The clinical efficacy and nerve conduction velocity,including SCV and MCV,were observed after 2 treatment courses.RESULTS:The clinical efficacy of experimental group(96.67%)was superior to control group(60.00%)(P0.01).The nerve conduction velocity of experimental group was significantly increased after treatment(P0.01).The change of nerve conduction velocity of control group was not obvious(P 0.05).CONCLUSION:α-lipoic acid synergistically combined with mecobalamin is effective for type 2 diabetic peripheral neuropathy and improves nerve conduction velocity significantly.
