Abstract
To study heavy metals contamination of soils and vegetables on roadsides in outskirts of city and the potential risk for human consumption of vegetalbls. The most contamination of heavy metals in soil was Cd, and there were 40% of the soil samples beyond the criterion for Cd. It has been indicated that Pb was the main pollutant in vegetables. The contents of Pb in vegetables were leaf vegetables egg plant and fruit vegetables melon vegetables root and stem vegetables. There were 12.1%~85.1% of leaf vegetables beyond the criterion for Pb, however none of Raphanus sativus or Benincasa hispida beyond the criterion. The samples of standard exceeding cadmium contents were found only in some limited vegetables ,and they were Ipomoea aquatica,Lactuca sativa and Nasturtium officinale.
