Abstract
Objective:To investigate the relationship between edaravone and lipid peroxidation after sciatic nerve injury.Methods:48 Wistar rats were divided into 3 group randomly:sciatic nerve crush injury group,edaravone-treated group and sham operation group. To detect sciatic function index(SFI),superoxide dismutase(SOD) and malonydialdehyde(MDA) at 7 d,14 d,21 d,28 d after operation. To observe the effects of edaravone on lipid peroxidation after sciatic nerve injury. Results:SFI was decreased in all the groups after the operation,SFI in the crush injury group was lower than that in the edaravone-treated group(P0.05).The sciatic nerve function recovered slowly in the crush injury group. The activity of SOD was increased in the crush injury group. There was no difference between the edaravone-treated group and the sham operation group(P0.05).The MDA content in the spinal cord was increased obviously in the crush injury group. The MDA content in spinal cord of rats in the edaravone-treated group was significantly lower than that in the crush injury group at different time points(P0.05).Conclusion:Edaravone can inhibit lipid peroxidation after sciatic nerve crush injury in rats to protect neurons,so that which can enhance the nerve functional recovery.
