Abstract

Objective To investigate the relationship of cerebral infarction with paraoxonase 1(PON1)gene 192G/A polymorphism. Methods Genotypes of PON1 gene 192G/A were determined in 295 cerebral infarction patients and 117 controls by using polymerase chain reaction-restriction fragment length polymorphism(PCR-RFLP) method. Results The distributions of GG,GA and AA genotypes of PON1 gene were 36.75%,50.43% and 12.82% in control group and 28.14%,50.85% and 21.02% in cerebral infarction group, respectively. The frequencies of allelic G and A were 61.97% and 38.03% in control group and 53.56% and 46.44% in cerebral infarction group, respectively. The difference of genotype frequency of PON1 192G/A was not statistically significant(P0.05) but that of allelic frequency was statistically significant(P0.05) between the two groups.Odds ratio of allele A in cerebral infarction group was 1.2210 with 95% confidence interval 1.0147-1.4793 as compared with the control group. Conclusions PON1 gene 192G/A polymorphism might have relation with cerebral infarction.
