Abstract
Objective To investigate the effects of antibiotic-probiotic sequential treatment on the symptoms and quality of life in patients with diarrhea-predominant irritable bowel syndrome(IBS-D).Methods Eighty-three patients with IBS-D were divided into 3 groups. The patients in group A received sequential treatment with antibiotic, pinaverium bromide and glutamine compound capsule(GCC) at the first week, and then pinaverium bromide,GCC and probiotic for another 7 weeks. The patients in group B received pinaverium bromide,GCC and probiotic for 8 weeks, and the patients in group C received pinaverium bromide and GCC for 8 weeks. The lower gastrointestinal symptom scores(LGSS) and SF-36 scores were recorded before and after the treatment. Results The LGSS had a dountrend after the treatment in the all three groups. The LGSS was lower in group A than that in group C at the 4th week and 8th week after the treatment(P0.05,respectively).And at the 12th week,it was lower respectively in group A and group B than that in group C(P0.05).In group C,the LGSS was higher at the 12th week than at the 8th week(P=0.032).However,in group A and group B,the LGSS had no difference between 8th week and 12th week. The scores of SF-36 had a significant increase in the group A and group B at the 12th week after the treatment(P0.01).Conclusion The treatment with antibiotic-probiotic sequential had could improve the lower gastrointestinal symptom scores and the quality of life, and have less relapse in patients with IBS-D.
