Three-dimensional conformal radiotherapy combined with temozolomide for the treatment of brain glioma

OBJECTIVE:To investigate the efficacy and safety of three-dimensional conformal radiotherapy combined with temozolomide(TMZ) in patients with postoperative brain glioma.METHODS:A total of 29 adult patients with malignant brain glioma were randomly divided into observation group(15 cases) and control group(14 cases),who were treated with three-dimensional conformal radiotherapy combined with TMZ and three-dimensional conformal radiotherapy alone,respectively.The efficacy,survival rate and incidence of adverse reactions of the two groups were observed and compared.RESULTS: The effective power and 1-year survival rate of observation group were 53.3% and 80.0% respectively,which were higher than those of control group(28.6% and 71.4%),but there was no significant difference between groups(P0.05).The 2-year survival rate of observation group was 66.7% which was significantly higher than that of control group(28.6%),and the difference between groups was statistically significant(P0.05).No serious adverse reactions occurred in two groups and the rate of adverse events between the two groups had no significant difference(P0.05).CONCLUSION: Three-dimensional conformal radiotherapy combined with TMZ has a better efficacy than radiotherapy alone for the treatment of brain glioma with mild adverse reactions,so it is worthy of clinical application.
