Abstract
Objective To investigate the factors affecting taking part in HIV Voluntary Counseling and Testing(VCT) among female sex workers(FSWs) in Funan County of Anhui Province. Methods From January to February 2006,a community-based baseline survey of 203 FSWs in Funan County of Anhui Province was conducted.The risk factors associated with voluntary HIV consultancy among female sex workers(FSWs),including sociodemographic,sexual behavioral characteristics and status of participation in VCT. Results Among 203 subjects,35.0%(71/203) of them took part in VCT.Multivariate logistic regression analysis showed that factors significantly associated with the participation of HIV Voluntary Counseling and Testing(VCT) were the status of participation in voluntary HIV test(OR=2.54;95%CI:1.135.71),the location of sexual activity and 100% use of condoms with their sexual partner(OR=1.90;95%CI:1.05-3.43). Conclusion The rate for voluntary detection of HIV infection in FSWs is low and the activities of health education and intervention be performed to promote voluntary HIV consulting and testing among FSWs.
