Observation and management of vagus nerve reflex in throat surgery

Abstract
Objective To discusses causes of the incidence and management of vagus nerve reflex in throat surgery.Methods A total of 342 patients who received throat surgery with the aid of laryngoscope were included in the study.Enough anticholinergic drugs were selected before surgery,the depth of anesthesia was controlled,operation was kept gentle,and close observation of the heart rate and blood pressure were conducted to reduce the incidence rate of the vagus nerve reflex.Results The surgery duration ranged from 5 to 10 minutes.There were 32 cases of vagus nerve reflex when laryngoscope was set with an incidence rate of 9.4%.Conclusion For throat surgery patients,sufficient preoperative preparation,intraoperative close observation and timely treatment can effectively control the incidence of vagus nerve reflex and its adverse events.
