Abstract

Objective To explore the curative effect of pterygium resection and amniotic membrane transplantation on pterygium. Methods One hundred and seventeen patients with pterygium(155 eyes) were divided into two groups according to operative methods. The traditional pterygium resection was performed in the control group(45 patients,62 eyes),and pterygium resection with amniotic membrane transplantation was performed in the treatment group(72 patients,93 eyes). Results After one year of follow-up,the treatment group had a lower recurrence rate of pterygium(6.5%,6 eyes) as compared with the control group(24.2%,15 eyes;P0.05).Conclusion Pterygium resection with amniotic membrane transplantation can effectively reduce pterygium recurrence rate and accelerate wound healing in the treatment of pterygium.
