Abstract
Based on the principle of water saving first and water diversion later, an analysis is made of the current situation of domestic water consumption and water saving in the water supplied regions on the middle and east routes of the South-to-North Water Transfer Project. The achievements of water saving in these regions are summarized, and their potentials in water saving and the gap between the level of these regions and the world advanced level are pointed out. According to “2001’s development planning for technological progress in urban water saving in China”, the target of urban water saving from 2010 to 2030 for these regions and corresponding measures are put forward, and the volumes of water to be required and to be saved are also predicted. It is verified that water saving in these regions has generated great benefits, and the investment is far lower than that for the construction of water supply plants.
