Abstract
Objective To study the effect of simvastatin on osteoblasts, osteoclasts cultured in vitro. Methods Osteoblasts, osteoclasts isolated from SD rats were cultured and stimulated with simvastatin in vitro. The proliferation ratio and alkaline phosphatase(ALP) activity of osteoblasts were assessed and bone Absorption activity of osteoclasts was detected. Results Simvastatin 10-6~10-9mol/L markedly stimulated ALP Absorption of osteoblasts.Simvastatin 10-6~10-8mol/L not only promoted proliferation of osteoblasts but also inhibited bone Absorption activity of osteoclasts. Conclusion Simvastatin can promote bone formation and inhibit bone resorption in vitro and could be used for treating osteoporosis in the future.
