Abstract

An analysis on the flow and sediment load data of the Inner Mongolia reach of Yellow River indicates that at the Bayangaole station the bankfull discharge is related to the flow and sediment conditions of the previous 10 years, while at the Sanhuhekou station it is related to the previous 14 years.By applying a delayed response model to this reach,a calculation method for the bankfull discharges at these two stations is developed.Verification with the field data shows a good accuracy of the model. The moving average method, virtually a simplified version of the delayed response model, can also produce good results as shown by its application to the bankfull discharges at the same two stations.
