Abstract
Objective: To investigate the expression of serum Cystatin C and its significance in type 2 diabetic mellitus patients. Methods:53 type 2 diabetic patients in hospital were divided into three groups: normoal buminuria group, microalbuminuria group, overalbuminuria group. Serum Cystatin C , serum creatinine (Scr) and blood urea nitrogenBUNwere measured .At the same time, urinary albumin exceretion rate (UAER) were measured. Results:Along with the UAER gradually increasing, both Scr and Cystatin C graduallyincreasd. Compared with those of norrrmoalbuminuria group, in microalbuminuria group, serum Cystatin C level increased significantly; in Overalbuminuria group, both BUN and Scr level increased significantly, while serum Cystatin C level increased more significantly. Conclusion:Serum Cystatin C is a more sensitive parameter than Scr to diagnose early diabetic nephropathy in type 2 diabetic mellitus patients.
