Abstract
Objective To investigate the relationship between serum uric acid concentration(SUA) and hypertension in elderly patients, and to explore the value of SUA level in predicting the occurrence of hypertension. Methods 230 old patients with hypertension and 202 normal controls(NC) were selected in this study. The SUA level, risk factors for hypertension and their correlation were analyzed. Results The serum uric acid level in 230 patients with hypertension was higher than that in NC group (P 0.01).Elevated SUA level had significant correlation with hypertension, total cholesterol and high-density lipoprotein cholesterol deficiency. The prevalence rates of hypertension and hyperuricemia increased at the same time.Multivariate logistic regression analysis revealed that SUA level and body weight index were independent risk factors for hypertension (OR = 1.006,95% CI,1.002-1.009,P 0.05;OR = 1.166,95% CI:1.047-1.298,P 0.05).Conclusion Hyperuricemia has relationship with many risk factors for hypertension and is an independent risk factor for incidence of hypertension.
