Abstract

Objective To explore the effect of surgery on the serum S-100 protein concentration in patients with hypertensive intracerebral hemorrhage and Its clinical meaning. Method Sixty-seven patients with hypertensive intracerebral hemorrhage, in whom hematoma volumes varied between 30ml to 50ml, were divided into operative treatment group (35 cases) and conservative treatment group (32 cases). The serum concentration of S-100 protein was detected by ELISA method in all the patients and 30 healthy subjects (normal group). Results ①The serum concentration of S-100 protein in the conservative group was significantly higher than that in the normal group within 21 days after the hemorrhage (P0.01). ②The serum concentration of S-100 protein in the operative group was significantly higher than that in the normal group within 7 days after the hemorrhage (P0.01), but not 15 days and 21 days after the hemorrhage (P0.05). ③ The serum concentration of S-100 protein was significantly lower in the operative group than that in the conservative group 15 day and 21 days after the hemorrhage (P0.01). Conclusions Evacuation of hematoma can reduce damage to the brain after the hypertensive intracerebral hemorrhage.
