Awareness of hand hygiene of medical staff and influencing factors for implementation of hand hygiene

OBJECTIVE To investigate the awareness of hand hygiene of medical staff,compliance of hand hygiene, and influencing factors.METHODS A total of 219medical staff in the hospital were investigated by means of questionnaire survey.RESULTS A total of 226questionnaires were given out,and 219questionnaires were eligible with the effective response rate of 96.90%;the rate of correct awareness of the nurses was 59.18%,the physicians 16.13%,the technical personnel 7.14%.As for the cognition of hand hygiene,the awareness of the nurses was significantly better than that of the physicians and the technical personnel;the awareness of hand washing indications of the medical staff was not satisfactory,which led to the misunderstanding of the hand hygiene.The awareness rate of hand washing was significantly higher after the contact with patients or after the operation than before the contact with patients or before the operation.Busy work,insufficient hand washing facilities,far location of hand washing facilities,skin irritation,and dry skin were the influencing factors for the implementation of hand hygiene.CONCLUSIONEquipping the sound hand hygiene units lays the foundation of the hand hygiene;focusing on the hand hygiene education to continuously improve the awareness and compliance of hand hygiene is the key to promote the implementation of hand hygiene standards;the supervision of hand hygiene should be strengthened; the hand hygiene should be included in the continuous quality improvement.
