Abstract
Objective To investigate the effects of cyclooxygenase-2 inhibitor celecoxib on the proliferation and apoptosis of C6 glioma cells in vitro. Methods The C6 glioma cells were treated by different doses of celecoxib with different duration and observed under the microscope and electromicroscope. The viability of C6 glioma cells was examined by methyl thiazolyl tetrazolium assay, and cell cycle and apoptosis were examined by flow cytometry. Results Celecoxib caused the inhibition on the viability of C6 glioma cells and induced the apoptosis of C6 glioma cells with a dose-and time-dependent manner(P0.05).After treated with celecoxib, the number of C6 glioma cells in S phase decreased while that of G2 phase increased(P0.05).Conclusion Celecoxib can inhibit the proliferation and induce the apoptosis of C6 glioma cells.
