Abstract

Aim: To determine the serum levels of soluble intercellular adhesion molecule-1( sICAM-1) and leukocytemembrane adhesion molecules( CD11a and CD18) in patients with congestive heart failure( CHF) . Methods: The serum specimens of eighty patients with CHF and fifty healthy controls were collected. The serum sICAM-1 was determined by ELISA,and CD11a and CD18 by flow cytometry. Results: The serum sICAM-1 level and the percent of CD11a + or CD18 + cells of CHF patients were significantly higher than those of the control group( t = 10. 186,11. 999,and 13. 764,P 0. 05) . Among the CHF patient caused by different heart disease, there were no significant differences in the serum sICAM-1 level and the percent of CD11a + or CD18 + cells( F = 2. 578,1. 723,0. 214,P 0. 05) . There were significant differences in the serum sICAM-1 level, the percent of CD11a + and CD18 + cells( F = 23. 953,15. 592,25. 384,P 0. 001) among the CHF patients with different heart function degree, and those of Ⅳ degree CHF patients were higher than those of Ⅱ or Ⅲ degree patients( P 0. 05) . Conclusion: The inflammation reaction induced by ICAM-1 may be important for CHF.
