The Formation of the Views towards Chinese and Western Civilization in Late Qing Dynasty——Focusing on the Period from the Late 1870s to the Early 1890s

This paper discusses the views of Chinese intellectuals towards Chinese and Western Civilization after the 1870s.The change of ways of addressing showed that Chinese began to accept the western civilization from then on,no longer regarding China as the sole center of world civilization.During this process,foreigners who came to China introduced western civilization together with critical ideas towards Chinese culture through magazines and newspapers,which served to shape the formation of new concepts of Chinese and Western civilization.
