Abstract

The Sanbao Ship Lock Canal Bridge in Hangzhou is a bridge currently being built over the southernmost end of the Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal. The conceptual considerations and design of the Bridge comprehensively cover various factors like the function, landscape, navigation and culture. In the four bridge types of a single pylon and double cable plane cable-stayed bridge,an irregular shape arch bridge,a multi-arch bridge and a prestressed concrete continuous girder bridge, the asymmetric single pylon and double cable plane cable-stayed bridge is finally chosen after the comprehensive evaluation and comparison. The software ANSYS 10.0 was used to analyze the force conditions of the principal structure of the chosen bridge. The results of the analysis demonstrate that the force conditions of the pylon and main girder at the completion stage can satisfy the requirements in the specifications and the design of the structure is rational.
