Abstract
A serious and infectious epidemic of Lateolabrax japonicus cultured in net-cage in Xiangshan,Ningbo,Zhejiang Province, broke out from May to June 2007. From the diseased fish of natural and artificial-infections,we isolated strains LY-1 and LY-2 respectively. By the means of morphological, physiological and biochemical tests and 16S rRNA sequence analysis,we initially identified both LY-1 and LY-2 as Vibrio harveyi. HSP60 gene sequences showed that strains LY-1 and LY-2 had sequence identity of 99% to harveyi, whereas had less than 91% identity to the other vibrios. Based on the results obtained, the strains LY-1 and LY-2 were identified as Vibrio harveyi.
