Abstract

Objective To explore the efficacy and safety of citalopram combined with buspirone in treatment for senile depression. Methods Fifty patients with senile depression were randomly assigned to study group(treated with citalopram combined with buspirone,n=25)and control group(treated with citalopram,n=25)for 12 weeks.Hamilton depression scale(HAMD),Hamilton anxiety scale(HAMA)and treatment emergent symptom scale(TESS)were used to evaluate the efficacy and adverse effect respectively. Results After 8 and 12 weeks, the curative rate and effective rate in study group were significantly higher than those in control group. The scores of HAMD and HAMA in study group were significantly lower than those in control group after 4 weeks. The scores were significantly lower in two groups after 2 weeks of treatment. The incidence of adverse effect and the scores of TESS had no significant difference between the two groups. Conclusions Citalopram combined with buspirone is more effective than citalopram alone in treatment for senile depression, but two methods have same safty.
