Abstract

Gao Bing’s Collection of Tang Poetry is an important book of selected works of Tang poetry, of which the view of regular and varied form of poetry style is an important part. The view could be divided into three parts: Firstly, with the view that poetry style changes in accordance with the change of dynasties, it clarifies the origin and development of various poetry styles before Tang Dynasty; Secondly, it regards the poetry style in prosperous Tang as being standard, while that in late Tang as varied; Thirdly, it holds that Pre-Tang poetry is standard, of which the five-character and seven-character poetry of Tang Dynasty is the varied form. Its influence has been far-reaching into later ages including Ming and Qing Dynasties.
