Construction of Humanistic Spirit in China's Research Universities

An in-depth consideration is taken aiming at the construction of humanistic spirit or liberal arts/science in China's research universities. Based on the analysis of the core of humanistic spirit in research universities, it is deemed that in China's universities/colleges there are some misleading spots in cultivating students' humanistic spirit, which have become the restriction on the attempt on establishing some China's universities to be the first-grade ones in the world. Since the research universities are so important to cultivate high-level professionals who shall be the main force for sci-tech renovation/development, the problem how to carry on and cultivate the humanistic spirit of students is to be solved as a crucial point to the nation. Some measures are thus suggested to take, such as forming a humanistic environment with students as center and creating a cultural atmosphere with academic freedom and democratic administration as core.
