Determination of Chromium (III) and Chromium (VI) in Waste water by HPLC-ICPMS

Abstract

The simultaneous determination of trivalent chromium and hexavalent chromium in wastewater was carried out in High Performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) and inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICPMS) analysis. By using hypersil GOLD TM (150 × 4.6 mm, 5μm) column in HPLC, 5 mmoL/L (pH = 7) EDTA as mobile phase ina flow rate of 1.2mL/min, trivalent chromium would coordinate with EDTA. After separation of Chromium (Ⅲ)-EDTA and Chromium (Ⅵ), the amount of each chromium could be determined by ICPMS in 4 min. When the injection volume of 100μL, the detection limit of the method of trivalent chromium and hexavalent chromium, are 43.4 ng/L and 82.8 ng/L respectively. This method is of high sensitivity, less disturbance, high accuracy and efficiency.
