A HORIZONTAL COMPARISON OF THE TECHNOLOGICAL INNOVATION CAPABILITY OF THE STRATEGIC EMERGING INDUSTRIES IN HENAN PROVINCE

Abstract

Since the financial crisis,all levels of government in the world have been focusing on the strategic emerging industries.This paper selects several indexes such as investment in research and development(RD),sales of new products,volume of business in technical markets and the number of patent license.It then conducts a comparative evaluation of the technological innovation capability of the strategic emerging industries in Henan Province,Guangdong Province,Shandong Province,Beijing,Shanghai,Jiangsu Province and Hubei Province in Central China.The result shows that Henan Province is a far cry from these developed provinces and falls behind Hubei Province as well in the technological innovation capabilities.Then the paper gives suggestions on how to develop the strategic emerging industries in Henan Province in the years to come.
