Abstract

Objective To evaluate the reliability of BIOFOSUN system in identifying common Aspergillus. Methods 77 clinical isolates of Aspergillus were identified by routine morphological and molecular biological sequencing of rDNA conservative areas. The results of identification were compared with those from BIOFOSUN system. Results The coincidence rates of BIOFOSUN system identifying Aspergillus nidulans,Aspergillus fumigatus,Aspergillus parasiticus,Aspergillus clavatus,Aspergillus awamori,Aspergillus ustus,Aspergillus flavipes and Aspergillus japonicus were all 100%.The coincidence rates of identifying Aspergillus flavus,Aspergillus fumigatus,Aspergillus niger and Aspergillus terreus were 92%,85%,75% and 70% respectively. The coincidence rate of identifying Aspergillus terreus was relatively low,but the shape and pigment of the colony from BIOFOSUN system morphological images were characteristic, which could help identification.BIOFOSUN system could differentiate the strains with similar morphological feature, which could not be differentiated by rDNA sequencing. Conclusions BIOFOSUN system can analyze data through computer, which is highly automatic and standard. This system can simplify the procedure of identification consumedly and provide an effective method for standardized identification of Aspergillus.
