Expression of VEGF-C,nm23 gene and microvessel density in cervix carcinoma and their relation with metastasis

Abstract

Objective To investigate expressions of vascular endothelial growth factor-C(VEGF-C)non-metastasis(nm23)gene and microvessel density(MVD)in cervix carcinoma,simultaneously,their relation with metastasis was also studied.Methods the expression of VEGF-C,nm23 in 68 cases of cervical carcinomas and 16 cases of normal cervical epithelium were detected by immunohistochemistry SABC method,and blood vessel endothelial cells were labeled by CD105 and MVD of the cervix carcinoma was assayed.Results The positive expression rates of VEGF-C was remarkably higher in cervical carcinoma than those in normal cervical epithelium(P0.01),the positive rates of VEGF-C in cases with lymph node metastasis was higher than that in the cases without lymph node metastasis(P0.05),there was positive correlation between the expression intensity of VEGF and MVD.While the positive expression rates of nm23 was remarkably lower in cervical carcinoma than those in normal cervical epithelium(P0.01),the positive rates of nm23 in cases with lymph node metastasis was lower than that in the cases without lymph node metastasis(P0.05),there was a negative correlation between nm23 expression and VEGF-C expression(P0.05).Conclusion The higher expression of VEGF-C and the lower expression of nm23 in cervical carcinoma may play an important role during tumor angiogenesis,invasion and metastasis.Detection for expression of VEGF-C nm23 may be valuable for further understand the regional tumor angiogenesis and predict the prognosis of cervix carcinoma.
