Abstract
Objective To evaluate the significance of nm23-H1 and p53 expression in predicting the proliferation and metastasis activity of breast cancer.Method The expression of nm23-H1,p53 and ki-67 in breast cancer was observed using immunohistochemical S-P technique in 120 patients. Results Nm23-H1 protein was found in 50.8%(61/120) of breast cancers, while p53 protein in 60.0%(72/120) of breast cancers.Expression of nm23-H1 correlated with ki-67 proliferation activity or regional axillary lymph node metastasis(P0.05),and was higher in patients with ki-67 low proliferation activity(68.0%,49/72) than those with ki-67 high proliferation activity(25.0%,12/48).In addition, the expression of nm23-H1 in patients with lymph node metastasis(33.3%) was significantly lower than that those without lymph node metastasis(72.2%).There was a significant difference of p53 expression between those with ER positive(55.8%)and those with ER negative(73.5%).Conclusion Nm23-H1 and p53 expression was associated with biological behavior of breast cancer, and may be used for predicting metastasis potential.
