Research on Technology Transfer Capacity of Multinational Enterprises Affecting on Technology Acquisition in International Joint Ventures

Abstract

International joint ventures(IJVs) are an efficient means to learn technology from multinational enterprise(MNEs) for local firms.Technology acquisition is not only determined by absorptive capacity of acquirer but also highly influenced by technology transfer capacity of transferor.This paper attempts to determine key components within MNEs' transfer technology capability,and proposes propositions of positive relationships between MNEs' transfer technology capability and IJVs' technology acquisition.This paper tests propositions using a sample of Sino-foreign equity joint ventures from high-tech zone in Fujian.The research results indicate that,the factors including possession of relevant knowledge,prior collaborative experience,open communication with IJVs,active managerial involvement and transfer of expatriate experts all strongly and positively affect IJVs' learning,and the combination of support in management and training generates a positive synergy effect.
