Abstract
Objective To evaluate the therapeutic effect of pars plana vitrectomy(PPV)assisted by triamci-nolone acetonide(TA)on intraocular foreign bodies. Methods Twenty-three patients(23 eyes)suffering from intraocular foreign body-associated retinal damage underwent PPV assisted by TA.TA was inoculated into the vitreous cavity to visualise the vitreous.Posterior hyaloid detachment was made and vitreous were removed as much as possible.C3F8 or silicone oil was used when needed. Results All foreign bodies were taken out.Artificial posterior hyaloid detachment was made successfully in 15 eyes.Retinal detachment was found in 3 eyes. Conclusions TA improved the visibility of the hyaloid and the safety of the surgical procedures. No serious complications were observed after PPV assisted by TA for intraocular foreign bodies. The incidence of secondary retinal detachment was reduced due to the application of TA.
