Abstract

Why was French revolution so ferocious In L'Ancien Regime et la Revolution, Tocqueville provided some inspiring answers to the previous question: the influences of Enlightenment thinkers, the effect of the concurrence of political revolution and religious revolution, teachings concerning revolution on the part of the old regime, the purpose of the revolution and the national characteristics of France.
