Abstract
The Hallidayan notions of theme and rheme pose an interesting challenge to linguists in their attempts to pin them down specifically.This paper attempts to clarify some basic concepts about theme and rheme,focus on the delimitation between them and argue there is no need to extend the boundary between theme and rheme,nor the need to introduce thematic displacement.
