Abstract

This paper gives an integrated quantitative evaluation on Beijing development status by applying the methods of factor analysis to indicators of 18 districts (counties) in Beijing. It tries to explore the leading factor determining the development of each district (county) and provides a scientific basis for setting up each district 's (county's) advantages and functional orientation in Beijing region development. On the basis of Beijing's current urban spatial structure, a plan is put forwarded that in the zone providing extended urban functions, between kernel serving zone (the old city area) and ecological maintenance zone (mountain area), four development zones (Chaoyang_Tongzhou, Fengtai, Shijingshan, and haidian) should be established. By forming population and merchandize flow circle inside each development zone respectively, the pressure caused by over_centralized population and urban functions in the old city area can be significantly reduced. Moreover, development zones interlink with each other to produce a functional reciprocity and constitute an industrial ring, which is the framework of Beijing metropolitan area development.
