An Empirical Analysis of the Intra-industry Trade and the International Trade Competitiveness on China's Textile and Apparel Industries in Post-Quota Era

Abstract

Based on the data of China Customs Import and Export and WTO Trade Statistics(2005-2010) of China's textile and apparel(TA) industries,this paper makes an empirical analysis on the situation of China's TA intra-industry trade and competitiveness.Results indicate that the development level of intra-industry trade is very low although its competitiveness has enhanced,the trade style in China's TA industries is mainly inter-industry trade.Also,on the product level,the level of intra-industry trade is different.for textile industry,both intra-industry trade and competitiveness are advanced;for the crude raw material,the competitiveness is week and the intra-industry trade is advanced;for the apparel industry,products are advanced but the level of intra-industry trade is low;for the textile machinery industry,both products and trade are in low level.Finally some competitiveness-fostering suggestions are proposed for the development of China's TA intra-industry trade.
