Clinical analysis of posterior lens capsule rupture in cataract phacoemulsification

OBJECTIVE To observe the reasons,treatment methods and prognosis of posterior lens capsule rupture in cataract phacoemulsification.METHODS Thirty-two cases(32 eyes) of posterior lens capsule rupture by phacoemulsification during October 2005-February 2011 were analyzed.All operations were performed by the same physician having phacoemulsification experience for more than 10 years and the group of patients were followed up for 6-24 months.RESULTS 1.Preoperative situation: The group was composed of 24 eyes of age-related cataract(6 eyes of cataract in expansion stage,4 eyes of level Ⅳ hard nuclear cataract,4 eyes of traumatic cataract,3 eyes of posterior polar cataract,2 eyes of complicated cataract after vitrectomy,1 eye of high myopia with cataract,1 eye of cataract after glaucoma surgery).2.Implantation situation of artificial lens: 31 eyes were implanted intraocular lens of stage one,including posterior chamber 29 eyes,the former room 2 eyes.Intraocular lens implantation for 1 eye was in the second phase.3.Postoperative situation: The visual acuity of 25 eyes was increased in 3 lines and above;retinal detachment appeared in 1 eye;serious complications were not occurred such as corneal decompensated,intraocular infection and so on.CONCLUSIONS During operation timely discovery,properly handling,reducing complications and improving patients' useful vision of the patients with high risk factor of capsule rupture was very important.And the assessment of preoperative condition and the improvement of cognitive level was equally important.
