Abstract

Objective To investigate the expression of metallothionein(MT) and vascular endothelial growth factor(VEGF) in prostatic carcinoma(PCa)and its clinical significance. Methods Immunohistochemical method was used to observe the expressions of MT and VEGF of 66 cases of PCa tissues and 20 cases of benign prostatic hyperplasia(BPH) tissues in different grades. Results The positive expressions of MT in BPH and PCa were 100%(20/20),59.1%(39/66),respectively,the difference was significant(P0.01);those of VEGF 15%(3/20),69.7%(46/66),the difference was significant(P0.01);MT and VEGF were significantly related to tumor pathological grades(P0.05).MT was positively correlated with VEGF(P=0.004).Conclusion High expression of MT may be a biological marker of PCa occurrence, coordinating with VEGF.Combined detection of MT and VEGF is of some reference value in diagnosis of PCa and in judgment of its degree of malignancy and prognosis.
