Abstract
Objective To explore the effect of distraction osteogenesis(DO)in the treatment of juvenile mandibular deformity.Method Five cases of juvenile patients with micrognathia deformity, which 1 case caused from hemifacial microsomia and 4 cases from ankylosis, were treated with distraction osteogenesis,6 distractors were fixed, the changes of facial appearance and relative symptoms were compared preoperatively and postoperatively.Result DO have been finished, the facial deformity of all patients were corrected, the average distraction distance on the affected side reached 23.4 mm(range 17.6 mm to 28.0 mm)after distraction, the relative symptoms were minimized.Expected appearance and quality of bone formation in the gaps achieved. Conclusion DO is a feasible method in the treatment of juvenile mandibular deformity,it is worthy of recommending widely.
