Abstract

Objective To evaluate the efficacy of levofloxacin with cefuroxime plus azithromycin in treatment of community-acquired pneumonia(CAP).Methods Fifty-seven CAP patients were randomly divided into levofloxacin groups treated with levofloxacin alone and control group treated with cefuroxime plus azithromyicn, and the efficacy, side effects in both groups were observed. Results The cure and efficacy ratea in the levoploxacin treatment group were 70.96% and 93.54% respectively. The eradieation rates of pathogens was 88.89%.The incidence of adverse drug reaction was 12.90%.In cefuroxime and azithromycin combination group, the cure and efficacy rate were 69.23% and 92.31% reapectively. The eradication rates of pathogens was 85.71%.The incidence of adverse reaction rate was 11.54%.There was no significant difference between the two groups in term of these parameters. The mean duratoion of treatment and days of hospital stay did not show significant difference between the two groups. Conclusions levofloxacin is efficacious, with good tolerance and low incidence of adverse reactions in treatment of community-acquired pneumonia.
