A Comparison between Levofloxacin and Cefuroxime with Azithromycin in Community-acquired Pneumonia

Objective To compare the clinical effects,bacterium clearances and safety of levofloxacin and cefuroxime with azithromycin in treatment of community-acquired pneumonia(CAP).Methods Seventy-five CAP patients were randomly divided into groups levofloxacin(therapy group,n=40) and cefuroxime plus azithromycin(control group,n=35),to observe the efficacy,pathogen clearance rates and side effects.Results In therapy group,33 were clinical cured(82.5%),4 improved(10.0%),and the total effective rate,bacterium clearance and adverse reaction incidence were 92.5%,94.7%,2.5%,respectively.In control group,28 cured(80.0%),4 improved(11.4%),and the total effective rate,bacterium clearance and adverse reaction incidence were 91.4%,92.3%,2.9%,respectively,there were no significant differences between two groups(P0.05).Conclusion Medication of treatment group is given once/d,in a large dose,and the patients′ compliance is better than that of control (twice/d),with good tolerability and low incidence of adverse reactions.This medication will further expand the application of levofloxacin in CAP treatment.
