Poverty in Development:A Case Study of the Minority Areas in Yunnan

Although the economy of the minority areas in west China has made remarkable achievements since the implementation of the development strategy for west China,the poverty in development is still conspicuous,with the widening gap between west China and eat China.Development can not guarantee the eradication of poverty,which is the greatest challenge to the development of the minority areas in west China.Yunnan ranks first in China in terms of minority groups and has the longest land boundary among the ethnic autonomous regions.The intertwinement of minority problems and international borderland problems is quite typical in China.Due to various factors,the minority areas in Yunnan are not only the poorest area in China but also important strategic gateways in the borderland of China.The major problems in the minority areas in Yunnan include ethnic problems,borderland problems and poverty problems.The paper focuses on the study of: the poverty in survival and the poverty in development and offers some possible solutions.
