Abstract
Objective To evaluate the value of serum prostate specific antigen(PSA) and prostate specific antigen density(PSAD) as an indicator for the differential diagnosis between BPH and PC.Methods Serum samples were obtained from 50 men with untreated BPH and 36 men with untreated prostate cancer.PSA levels of all samples were assayed by radioimmunoassay. Results When the upper normal limit of PSA was set at 4 μg/L, the diagnostic sensitivity was 94%,the specificity 36% and the accuracy 60%,If the upper normal limit of PSA was set at 10 μg/L,the sensitivity, speciticity and the accuracy was 89%,62% and 73%,respectively.The diagnostic sensitivity of PSAD determination was 89%,the specificity 90% and the accuracy 90%.Conclusion PSAD may be more useful as a tumormarker for PC.
