Abstract

The crude polysaccharides were extracted from Opuntia with hot water. Two main fractions OPA, OPB were obtained after eluting from DEAE-SephadexA-25 column. Polyacrylamide electrophoresis and HPLC showed that the two fractions were homogeneous. By means of UV, IR, HPLC, GC, 1H-NMR, etc, it was estimated that the purified polysaccharides had some properties as follows: the purity of OPA, OPB was 92.20 %, 86.91 %, the content of uronic acid was 11.76 %, 80.48 % and the molecular weight was 364 003, 167 768 respectively. The former was composed of Rhamnose, Arabinose, Xylose, Galctose and Arabinuronic acid. The latter was composed of Rhamnose, Arabinose, Glucose, Galctose and Arabinuronic acid. The both had a main chain of β-(1,3) linkage.
