A DISCUSSION ON THE STRUCTURE OF 500kV SUBSTATION AUTOMATION SYSTEM

Abstract

According to the investigation and study of substation automation for 500kV substation in Zhejiang province and engineering practice of Shuanglong substation, the structure of 500kV substation automation system is discussed. In this paper two kinds of substation automation systems, i.e., the centralized system and the decentralized system, are compared, comparison results show that the performance of the latter is better than that of the former. Along with the development of information technique and communication technique, the reliability and performance of the components in substation automation system are greatly improved, therefore, a good technical foundation for the simplification of substation automation system is laid. On the basis of implementation of the substation automation system for Shuanglong substation, several suggestions such as simplifying the computers system in station level, applying single ether network to station level, canceling or reducing the protection management computer, adopting new network technology and applying integrated devices in low voltage system, etc., are proposed, and an optimum structure of substation automation system based on the above mentioned deductions is put forward.
