Abstract

Objective To further Investigate the effect of eye acupuncture on endothelin(ET-1) and calcitonin(CGRP) in patients in the acute stage of cerebral infarction and explore the mechanism of action of eye acupuncture therapy. Methods One hundred and twenty patients with cerebral infarction were randomly allocated to eye acupuncture and control groups. The eye acupuncture group received treatment by point selection based on traditional Chinese medical syndrome differentiation and classification in addition to medication and the control group, medication alone. Results The total efficacy rate and the cure-marked efficacy rate for the acute stage were 88.3% and 71.7%,respectively,in the eye acupuncture group and 81.7% and 53.3%,respectively,in the control group. There were statistically significant differences(P0.05).The therapeutic effect was significantly better in the eye acupuncture group than in the control group.Changes in ET-1 and CGRP contents showed that plasma ET decreased significantly and plasma CGRP increased significantly in the two groups after treatment(both P0.05).Conclusions Eye acupuncture treatment by point selection based on syndrome differentiation can regulate ET-1 and CGRP contents, increase blood flow in the cerebral infarct and improve cerebral ischemia in the acute stage of cerebral infarction. This is one of the mechanisms of action of eye acupuncture treatment for the acute stage of cerebral infarction.
