Abstract
Objective To investigate the influences of eye acupuncture on neural deficit and plasma fibrinogen level in acute cerebral infarction patients and explore the possible mechanism by which eye acupuncture treats acute cerebral infarction.Methods One hundred and twenty patients hospitalized in our department with the duration of disease within seven days were recruited from Dec 2004 to Dec 2006.They were randomly allocated to an eye acupuncture plus basic treatment group and a basic treatment group.The therapeutic effects were evaluated by neural deficit scoring.Plasma FIB levels were quantitatively measured by a coagulation method.Results The total efficacy rate and the sum of basic cure rate and marked improvement rate were 95.0% and 65.0%,respectively,in the eye acupuncture plus basic treatment group and 50.0% and 26.7%,respectively,in the control group.There were statistically significant differences,suggesting that the therapeutic effect was better in the eye acupuncture group than in the basic treatment group.Plasma fibrinogen level decreased from(3.89±1.02) g/L to(2.53±0.81) g/L in the eye acupuncture group and from(3.91±1.04) g/L to(3.17±0.94)g/L in the control group.Statistical analysis showed a significant difference in plasma fibrinogen level between the two groups after treatment.Conclusion That eye acupuncture reduces plasma fibrinogen level in acute cerebral infarction patients may be one of the mechanisms by which it treats acute cerebral infarction.
