Abstract
Objective To discuss the clinical features and the effect of endovascular interventional embolization for traumatic carotid-cavernous fistulas (TCCF). Methods Retrospective research of interventional embolization for 32 cases of TCCF was conducted via femoral artery approach. With Seldinger technique adopted in the puncture of femoral artery, magic BD catheters combining with balloon were used to embolize the fistula or the internal carotid artery. Results All the cases were cured. The fistulas of 28 cases were occluded with patency of internal carotid artery (ICA) accounting for 87.5%, while ICA was occluded in 4 cases. Follow-up varied from 6 months to 5.2 years in 27 cases of the group. No one presented recurrence. Conclusion The detachable balloon technique is an optimal way for TCCF.
