Re-interpretion of Historiography-value(Shi De)

It is not according to talent(Cai), knowelodge(Xue), insight(Shi), but according to historiography-value(Shi De) to distinguish historian from the common intellectual. What Zhang Xuecheng differs from Liu Zhiji is that he doesn’t regard historiography-insight as the supreme criterion, and,above which, establishes a principle to restrict and supervise it. Historiography-value means sovereign-superiority,intention is conformed within the ethical doctrine.Being an exclusive systerm, historiography-value, advocated by Zhang Xuecheng, applies chiefly to what professional historian should do, and at most relates to some vindication and promise of ruling ethics. But, being an open systerm,the new historiography-value demands more historian to undertake indispensable duty to the public and society. The meaning of this duty is not to recognize readily what the thing is but to quest solemnly why the thing is so. The nature of the new historiography-value is not a kind of moral but is a sense of right.
